Academic Programs For Image & Data Analysis

Our Partnerships with the Academic Community

At Exelis Visual Information Solutions, we are committed to helping educators foster students’ careers in disciplines involving geospatial imagery and complex numerical data. Top educators in learning institutions use our software solutions – ENVI and IDL – to create meaningful, relevant course curricula. This enables students to pursue professional positions in top commercial, government, and defense organizations after graduation.

Exelis Innovation Centers

Exelis Innovation Centers highlight universities and colleges in the United States and Canada offering courses that involve the use of image and data analysis software as a core component of the curriculum. As Exelis Innovation Centers, universities and colleges may receive a number of educational benefits, including licenses of the company’s industry-leading software products for image and data analysis, ENVI and IDL, for use in classroom instruction. Other advantages include access to professional training resources and consultations with Exelis representatives on course structure and curriculum, as well as the opportunity to preview and give feedback on releases of ENVI and IDL.

As partners in the program, participating academic institutions will contribute to advancements in data and image analysis within the ENVI and IDL product lines, and they will provide curriculum, research and papers, and other resources of value to others in the academic community.

Academic Partner Programs

Our support of K-12 schools, community colleges and universities extends to a number of data visualization and geospatial imagery educational programs. Exelis Visual Information Solutions proudly supports initiatives such as iGETT (Integrated Geospatial Education Technology and Training) and CalGETT (California Geospatial Education Technology Training), which prepare students for the workforce by developing instruction that integrates geographic information systems (GIS) with remote sensing technology.

iGETT

By enabling two-year colleges to expand existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs iGETT, funded by the National Science Foundation, is helping to meet the demand for additional and better trained geospatial technologist. iGETT achieves these goals by focusing on the development of geospatial training and curriculum materials, course enhancement, program development, and community outreach.

CalGETT

A cooperation of California Colleges CalGETT was designed to enhance the skills of GIS Educators, and Natural and Cultural Resource professionals in remote sensing and image processing. In 2009, 32 remote sensing professionals were trained and gained skills in acquisition, processing, integration, display, and analysis of moderate-resolution imagery.

“Exelis Visual Information Solutions has supported the iGETT efforts to expand the use of remotely sensed data and software. Without this support, few two-year colleges would be able to integrate remote sensing into their programs.”

National Council for Geographic Education and iGETT Project Director

“The support of Exelis Visual Information Solutions is crucial to the success of the CalGETT project. By providing the software, as well as technical knowledge Exelis Visual Information Solutions has become an invaluable partner in this project.”
