| Using the IDL GRIB Library |
Date: Thursday, February 23, 2012
GRIB, Demystified!
GRIdded Binary (GRIB) is a standard World Meteorological Organization (WMO) data file format composed of self-contained records that is noted for its high levels of compression. GRIB is used worldwide, in both research and operational settings, by organizations such as ECMWF, the UK Met Office, EUMETSAT, NASA, NOAA, NCAR and AWFA.
In IDL 8.1, Exelis VIS introduced a low-level interface to GRIB (edition 1 and 2) files built on the ECMWF GRIB library. The IDL GRIB library is available on Linux and Mac OS X.
Please join us for this live, one-hour web seminar to see how to use IDL’s GRIB library to read and write GRIB edition 1 and 2 files. Topics covered in this webinar include:
- The format of a GRIB file, including GRIB terminology
- Overview of IDL’s GRIB library
- The GRIB programming model
- Reading data from a GRIB 1 file
- Reading data from a GRIB 2 file
- Writing to a new GRIB 2 file
- References
Whether you’re new to IDL or a long-time user, please join us for this live web seminar to see these and other features in IDL.
This webinar is available to the public. No previous experience with IDL is necessary. Preregistration is required.
