Monitor Environmental Effects of Development or Reclamation Efforts
The ENVI product line offers tools for visualizing and extracting information from imagery that are capable of generating and updating the base maps that you need for monitoring environmental impacts over time.
Base map information can be derived from various types of imagery using classification tools or the Feature Extraction tool, which applies an object-based classification using spatial, textural, and/or spectral attributes to extract features of interest as raster or vector data. The Feature Extraction tool uses a convenient wizard-like interface to guide you through the analysis from beginning to end and rapid rendering preview screens allow for adjustments at any point in the workflow.

ENVI products offer a complete suite of post-classification tools to help you generalize and clean up your raster output, export it to vector data, extract centerlines, rectangularize or smooth features, and seamlessly pass it into ArcGIS®. Radar and data fusion tools can also be used to incorporate radar data into the analysis, which is especially useful when the area of interest is frequently obscured by clouds in optical imagery.
ENVI products provide an array of sophisticated tools for dynamically viewing the same location in two or more images simultaneously, as well as tools for automatically detecting changes.

Change detection tools include a wizard-like guide to guide you through typically change detection workflows and can work on original images or categorized images. The results of change detection workflows can include not only maps of the detected changes, but also reports showing the area and percentage of different types of change. The areas of change are easily overlaid onto other images, with or without transparency, to quickly highlight change.
