Locate Oil Spills and Leaks
Extracting information from remotely sensed imagery with ENVI products can help with several tasks related to marine oil spills, including large area surveillance, site specific monitoring, and tactical assistance in emergencies.
The ENVI product line has a full suite of tools to process Radar and thermal imagery for oil spill detection and provides an array of sophisticated tools for dynamically viewing the same location in two or more images simultaneously, as well as tools for automatically detecting changes.

The change detection tools include a wizard-like guide to step you through typical change detection workflows. The oil spill change information can include not only maps of the changes, but also reports showing the area and percentage of change. These areas of change are easily overlaid onto other images, with or without transparency, to quickly highlight change. Once changes are detected, that information can be used as input to drift prediction modeling.

ENVI products offer spectral tools that include a full suite of classification tools and a Feature Extraction tool that can use spatial, spectral, textural, and temporal data to extract features of interest. These tools can help you map environmental damage caused by oil spills and leaks, including surface indicators of subsurface leaks, such as oil impacted soils or stressed vegetation.
State-of-the-art classification and Feature Extraction tools, in combination with change detection tools, make ENVI products ideal for assessing the success of remediation efforts.
